OMETEPE 8
Below is the idea for the race though nothing more than this has been achieved…
The Ometepe 8 is the first internationally available mountain bicycle race on the island of Ometepe in Nicaragua. The trail encircles the island's two volcanoes in one giant figure 8 loop.
Starting in the valley between Volcan Madres and Volcan Conception, riders will climb and descends parts of both volcanoes in succession. The trail dips between dirt roads, and newly blazed mountain bike trails. These trails are being created for this race and will combine hill climbs with speedy downhills. The trail will not be a technical one but rather a fun dips up and down. The Madres loop consists of more dirt roads where the Concepcion loop contains more challenging single track. Once completing the loop racers finish between the back on the black beaches from which the race began. This isn't a small island and will be a long tough race lasting over 65 mi. That being said it is not an expert only race and riders can ride half a loop. The purpose is to have fun, be challenged and be part of Ometepe's debut in mountain biking.
